WATCH: Vermont 100 Film “Head/Heart/Feet”

If you think running 26.2 miles over paved road is difficult, try wrapping your mind around running 100 miles over dirt roads and hiking trails with roots, rocks and other gnarly terrain. Now try thinking about doing it knowing you tried it once and collapsed 89 miles in.

This is the Vermont 100, a 100-mile ultra marathon held each summer in West Windsor, Vermont. A new film takes a look at the race – one of the events making up the Grand Slam of ultra running – and the journey of Zak Wieluns as he trains and attempts to complete it. Wieluns collapsed 89 miles into the race in 2011, and had to bow out with an injury after 30 miles in 2012.

The film, “100: Head/Heart/Feet,” chronicles Wieluns as he trains for the 2013 race and tries to balance his desire to finish a 100-mile race with maintaining some semblance of a normal life.
