CT’s Traprock 50 Set for April

I’ll never understand road runners; people who actually prefer the mind-numbing boredom of running on a flat, paved road. (Bleck!)

I even know at least one sicko who almost always runs on a treadmill … even if it’s 70 degrees and sunny out. (Clearly, a psychopath.)

Trail runners like variety. We like dirt under our feet and to be surrounded by fields and forests and mountains. We like long stretches of wooded paths; we often like the challenge of navigating terrain with rocks and roots. And sometimes we even like tackling elevation … at least up until a certain point, and then the swearing starts.

For trail runners looking for variety, you can’t do much better than the Traprock 50. A trail race that features a little bit of everything, Traprock will take place next April 13 at Penwood State Park in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Organized by CT Trailmixers, the event offers runners distances of 50K and 17K. The course features a loop of roughly 10.5-11 miles. Organizers describe it as a rolling course with forest roads and roughly 50 percent of the course on rocky, technical single track on the Metacomet Trail

The course also includes some elevation, as the event description defiantly states: “There will be no changes to the course from 2023. The power line hill stays!”

Race proceeds will go to a variety of local organizations, including the Simsbury Land Trust and the Connecticut Forest & Parks Association.
