If you’re the kind of twisted sicko who gets excited seeing the words “crushingly technical” when reading a course description, then you’ll want to be in Maine come August.
The Firebird Trail Races will take place at Lowell Preserve in Windham, Maine on August 23. The event is hosted by The Grind Run Company and features three race distances: 50K, marathon, and 13-miles.
Organizers describe the course as “crushingly technical.” The 10-mile loop in Lowell Preserve and through North Falmouth Community Forest features lots of rocks and roots on mostly singletrack trails.
The 13-mile course is one loop in Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest plus a 5K loop in East Windham Conservation Area trails. The marathon is two loops of the 13-mile trail. And the 50K is three loops in Lowell Preserve and North Falmouth Community Forest plus a 5K loop in Lowell.
To take part in the event, participants must donate to a non-profit of their choice in addition to paying the registration fee. Runners must donate to a non-profit within a year before the race and send organizers a receipt to confirm entry. Organizers say they would appreciate donations of at least $40, with a $20 minimum required.
